CHIMERA Pharma is focused in the development of immuno-therapeutics against infectious disease, cancer and cardiovascular disease. For this we have developed a proprietary platform based on "Chimeric" Virus Like Particles (VLP) for the incorporation of disease relevant antigens and their effective presentation to the immune system.
CHIMERA Pharma is focused in the development of its R&D programs in human health in the areas of Influenza and Cervical Cancer.
Influenza represents a major burden to society. Every year 1,000 M people are affected with flu which results in 3-5M cases of severe illness and 300.000 to 500.000 deaths. Over 200 M people are vaccinated every year against influenza. The influenza program is developing Chimeric Virus Like Particles aimed at inducing a broad preventive immune response against different influenza strains and providing broad spectrum protection. The resulting "universal" vaccines are currently in preclinical development.
Cervical Cancer also represents a major burden to society and the second most common cancer in women under 45, with over 500,000 women diagnosed with cervical cancer every year. Cervical cancer is in over 99% of cases associated to papillomavirus infection and despite aggressive screening programs and recently introduced preventive vaccines, cervical cancer will most likely remain a significant cause of death in women around the world for the coming decades. The Cervical Cancer program is developing Chimeric Virus Like Particles which incorporate antigenic epitopes of Papillomavirus.
CHIMERA Pharma is also actively involved in the early development of therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines for other indications while also improving in its proprietary antigen presenting technology platform.
